The starter in Your Ford F-150 is mounted to the transmission with three 13mm bolts and has battery cables bolted on top using one 10mm and one 13mm bolt. The first thing You want to do before replacing the starter is make sure that it is actually the part that is causing the problem. A faulty battery is much more common than a bad starter so make sure to have Yours tested, even if it reads the correct voltage at rest it may drop significantly when put under load. If the battery is good and Youve checked any other part that may be the issue then You should replace the starter. Make sure to disconnect the battery completely before removing the starter.
V6 is two bolts north and south. V8 has three bolts and one is by the transmission and you’ll need about 5 inches of extension and a swivel socket to reach. Also when putting back on id recommend that you put that bolt in first or second.
