The 2005 Kia Sorento only has a single catalytic converter that is located in line on the exhaust. It is after the headers, and before the main section of exhaust that goes to the back. The catalytic converter helps clean the exhaust gasses as they exit the engine and before they are released into the atmosphere. It is an important item to have working for the environmental control system on the vehicle. If Your catalytic converter is failing You will usually get a check engine light on the dash from one of the O2 sensors detecting emissions levels that are greater than average. If You need to replace a catalytic converter always use a new one, there is no way to tell the wear on them and a used one could be completely worn out.

The 03 to 05 kia Sorento has 3 catalytic converters. 2 manifold mount cast iron round and 1 flat oval- rectangular converter on the underbody of the vehicle. I see that someone commented that there was 1.There's one you can see easily. But there are 3 total.

There is three total on a Kia Sorento! It’s simple if you get under the vehicle you will see two on the engine and the main one is on the muffler!
