The 2011 Buick LaCrosse has dual-system catalytic converters, designed for redundancy. The exhauSTSystem has a catalytic converter. A converter can often last for 10 years or more, but it can become contaminated, clogged, overheated, or physically damaged leading to sluggish engine performance, cause a check engine light, and, eventually, an engine shutdown.Catalytic converters can overheat because of excessive amounts of unburned gas caused by a mIS Firing spark plug or a leaky exhaust valve. Besides, a failed oxygen sensor can cause overheating. On many vehicles, the cat is located under the vehicle, and like other parts of the exhauSTSystem, it can also be damaged by road debris or by running over a curb.
