The 2016 VW Passat useS5.8 quarts of SAE 5W-30 engine oil when You need to change it. Volkswagen recommends that You use full synthetic oil as well because it can help protect Your engine for longer. Oil comes in two major varieties, synthetic and conventional. Synthetic oil is engineered in a laboratory to be able to provide You with the ultimate lubrication for Your engine, and conventional is made of petroleum oil which is a byproduct of making gasoline. On average You will only need to change synthetic oil every 7,500 miles compared to every 3,500 to 5,000 with conventional oil. I recommend that You check Your oil at least once a month to make sure that it is full and free of debris or signs of burning.
