Replacing the engine in a Ford Escape is an expensive proposition. When You need to replace an entire engine You will want to decide whether You want a new engine or a used engine since both are available on the market. New engines usually cost about $2200 for the parts, and a used engine can range from $500 to $1500 depending on the condition and mileage on it. Getting one with low miles is preferred because it is less likely to have wear and tear on it. The labor associated with changing an engine varies by location as well. You can generally assume it'll be $1,000 to $3,000 in labor to completely remove an old engine and replace it with a new one.

My 2019 Ford Escape had a permenantl lit check engine light. I immediately took the car to Ford. After approximately 2 days, the Ford dealer called and said the engine had coolant in it and I needed a new engine. They said the engine wasn’t covered under the 3 year warranty which had expired 2 months prior to the development of the problem ( check engine light). They mentioned nothing of the 5year 60k mile warranty on the engine and drive train? Which is a great selling point for the car. I’ve had the car for 3 years and 3 months. I know that this same problem existed in earlier models. Does anyone with the 2019 escape/Ecoboost Have this issue? I’d appreciate the feedback as I’m gearing up to to fight this issue legally. I feel this is my only recourse.

Our 2018 Escape only had 74,000 miles and engine went out. This is rediculous. We always serviced it and used the synthetic oil. I think there should have been a recall and I will be writing Ford about this. Why hasn't this issue been set for a recall.

I just found out my 2014 Ford escape has to have a new engine. It's started out I was loosing coolant so I took it in. $800 bill. Still the same problem a few months later. Now Ford says I need a new engine. The dealership told me that the Escapes are known for engines going out about 70000 miles. That's where mine is at. It's going to cost me more than $8000 to replace it and labor. This needs to be recalled. If Ford doesn't make this right I will never buy another Ford again!

The costs of this is around $500 and will be different depending on the labor costs. The labor costs are normally around $200 to $300.

After reading some comments decided to share. I have a 19 Escape SE with a 1.5. Shortly after buying it in 2020 I received a recall notice and Ford replaced the block at no charge. My son bought a 17 Escape with a 2.0 last June. It has been intermittently misfiring on cylinder 3. We put new plugs in it two weeks ago and same thing. Then I noticed it was loosing coolant and not leaking. Suspicious, took it to the dealer this morning and Ford is going to replace the block. Dealer stated that the vehicle has to have less than 85,000 miles and less than 7 years old. Hope this helps someone!

I bought a used 2013 ford Escape for my daughters 16th. Two days after having it home the low coolant light came on. Coolant was filled and checked for leaks at my local oil change station. The next day the escape wouldn’t even drive. Coolant light came on and the engine went into a prevent mode which stopped the car from driving. Car was towed back to the dealership where they had it for 7 days exactly. They couldn’t find anything wrong, a week later the coolant light was back on. Car towed back again. 5 days later I was told the coolant was leaking into #3 cylinder and the engine needed to be replaced. Third party warranty refused the claim as it was a previous condition. Now dealership is only willing to pay 3$ for repairs.

I have a 2016 Escape (after a 2004, 2006, 2012 previously). Coolant intrusion--dealer was less than helpful. Said call Ford. I did--nope, wo't even help with the $11,200 engine replacement. I told the guy Ford is dead to me. NHTSA has 180 complaints over 5 years (as of a week ago). 8 TSBs about this. There IS a class action lawsuit--but so far the courts have eliminated some from it. I asked to be added based on the fraud clause. Ibought it used in 2021--the TSBs were out there so the dealer/Ford knew and sold it anyway--I even bought it certified (Gold). I just paid off the $8k I still owed and since the Ford dealership only offered to buy it for $500 for parts--I am looking to sell to ANYONE else who will pay that. Do a Google on Ford Escape, coolant intrusion class action lawsuit. It's in a court in CA right now. But won't happen quickly. I called the dealer from whom I bought the 2012, 2016 and a 2013 Fiesta--the sales manager was way more sympathetic--and he didnt promise anything but said he'd talk to his shop manager to see if there was anything they could do. I at least felt better that I went to that dealer vice the BS dealer in Annapolis, MD I'm dealing with now. Good luck everyone. So disgusted.

My 2019 Ford Focus had just hit 15,000 miles when the engine light went on. It turned out to be coolant leaking into the engine and I needed a whole new engine. I had never missed my maintenance and tune up and all service was done my Ford dealership. Thank goodness I had 8 months left on my 5 year warrantee and all expenses were covered. It took over 2 months to get my car back but Ford did furnish me with a rental. I just got my car back today and noticed 4 large paint chips on may front bumper. My brain is too fried from the ordeal to deal with this now. I have to start the New Year in a more positive note and count my blessings. The outcome could have been a lot worse and my heart goes out to everyone who was not covered under warrantee and paid thousands of dollars in engine repairs. I still have 20 months of car payments left and only 2 more months on my warrantee. Im on a fixed retirement income and worry about other major problems happening with this lemon of a vehicle. I’ve read that transmission failure and brake problems are also common problems with 2019 Ford Escapes.

2017 escape, same problem, my shop milled head flat and replaced the head gasket for $4,800 said it was better than new. Two months later same problem, coolant leak between #2 and #3 cylinder due to an engine design fault. Ford needed to get more power out of their four cylinder engine. To do that they needed to improve the cylinder cooling. They did this by putting a small slot in the cylinder wall between cylinders 2&3&4 which reduced the head gasket surface between cylinders by about 30%. Ford knew about this problem at least by 2016 if not sooner. Their fix was to eliminate the slot on new engines and instead cross drilled a hole horizontally between cylinders 2&3&4 to get the extra cooling they needed. My escape is out of warranty with 96,000 miles. I'm going to try "Blue Devil" head gasket sealer to see if I can stop the leak or at least try to reduce it as it drives fine with no other symptoms. Lesson learned, pay attention to the engine light

Engine Light went on and I took my 2919 Ford Escape has 16,000 miles on it and the engine icon went on and stayed on. I took it into the Ford Dealership Repair Shop and was told I need a new engine same problem with coolant and cylinder that just about everyone on this site has experienced. Thank God I have the extended warrantee because I still have over 2 years of payments left on the vehicle. The dealership did not give me a problem and will replace the engine for free. They even gave me a Hertz rental loner car. The dealership is understaffed and have only one technician left so I’ll have a three week wait for the repairs to be completed. I feel like one of the lucky ones and I’m so glad I took out the extended warrantee. The next issue is the break diagnosis. I’m down to 3 mm and will need new breaks at 4mm. I’ve been reading that the 2019 breaks are also problematic and breaks are also problematic and need constant replacement. My 2017 Ford Escape also needs an engine replacement. The problem started 3 months after the 5 year warranty expired. This was my 2nd Escape. The first one was horrible, but I was assured the 2017 models were much more reliable. The car has been a joke. Just spent over $1,000 replacing the purge valve - another problem Ford knew existed - and still does not cover. Also the dealership "forced" me to replace the all lug nuts at their price when the all magically failed at the very same time during a routine oil change. This is definitely my last Ford. Engine replacement costs is estimated at $6,000.
