The 2010 Chevrolet Colorado comes with one of three different engines, depending on Your chosen configuration. The smallest of which, the 2.9L 4Cylinder engine, requireS5 quarts of SAE 5W-30 full synthetic motor oil. The mid-sized 3.7L 5 cylinder engine, takeS6.0 quarts of the same, while the largest 5.3L V8 engine also takeS6.0 quarts of SAE 5W-30. In each case, You can substitute SAE 5W-40 over the short term if it is necessary. The substitution is allowed, but not recommended; oils with higher weights are thicker, which leads to more friction. In the long run, this can lead to premature wear and tear and eventually early engine failure. Therefore, it's recommended to always use the manufacturer's recommended oil with the lowest weight.
