Change the battery on the 2011 ford escape with the engine in the off position. Lift the hood release lever in the driver's side cabin and, then, pull the safety latch under the hood to raise it. Hold up the hood with the prop rod. Loosen the bolts on the battery bracket to take it out. Loosen the battery terminal nuts, and disconnect the cables, unscrewing the negative (black) cable first, then the positive (red) cable. First. Lift the battery out of the vehicle by gripping it from the bottom. Replace it with a new battery.
