To reprogRam the keyless entry pad on a Ford Explorer, type in the factory code found in the owner's manual. Within 5 seconds, press the 1-2 button, and enter 5 digits that are personal and simple to remember. New numbers must be pressed within 5 seconds of one another to be stored by the Explorer. It's not advisable to use birthdates or any other significant digits that could be accessible to a non-driver. Press the 1-2 button again to store the driver's information and set the new code. Your vehicle may be equipped to record a second entry code for an additional driver. Follow the steps above but save with the 3-4 button. The Explorer's doors will automatically lock and then unlock to confirm the new settings.

Look for the factory code first, and enter the factory code in into the keypad, and then press the 1-2 button. You can then enter in your new code, wait for the doors to lock and unlock and that means that the code has been set.
