How to fix power steering assist fault in a ford fusion?

I have a 2011 Ford Fusion SEL my power steering went out. I have a code that says Power Steering Assit Fault. I checked the fuses they are good.I called my local dealer who told me I was past 10 years on the recall. What else do I do?

My power steering assist fault light showed up when I went to run errands yesterday.i couldn’t turn the wheel. Got up this morning, checked the mail, went to start the car, there was no power steering assist fault message and the steering wheel turned with no problem. I have things to do but not sure if I should drive my car.

Just recently had this problem myself. Short answer is to check the fuse. I have a 2018 F150. The fuse was the problem. Mine was a 10 amp fuse. It's surprising that we as a generation have totally forgotten about the fuse box. It's an easy check and inexpensive. Beats going to a mechanic and having him tell you you need to need to replace your whole front end and all he does is replace a fuse and charge you thousands of dollars.

Yes thy do but not for the years n models that it happens to like mine 2011 sell all power n Ford doesn'twant togive u the code or if a factory resetis all it needs. They only want to charge u fr a diagnosisn the knowing part to fixit , which is out the doorcost about $1700. No wonder peoples choice is foreign not domestic.

4 months off 10 year safety warranty and we are quoted$4200 to replace Fusion steering.

So, in my case, I have a Ford fusion 2013 add few months back and give me a steering assist fault I went to the Ford mechanicSo in my case, I have a Ford fusion 2013 add few months back it gave me a steering assist fault I went to the Ford mechanics and they told me that it needs a new clock spring but the clock spring is back ordered so I went online and ordered a remanufactured clock spring from rockauto.com and replaced it myself and replaced it myself but the problem is still there. I don’t trust the Ford mechanics anymore and I don’t know what to do. Does anyone has any clue what components should I be looking at or what components are responsible like a list of components which are responsible for the failure of steering fault.

My car missed the warranty [10 year] by 2 months, no luck at Ford. Just alot of c**p and exuses. Why don,t they get ahold of the owners and let them know?

I had the message appear for the first time today on my 2011 Fusion SE. I’ve had similar issues in the past and the solution was to turn the wheel back and forth which helped the issue. This time that did not work, I turned the car off and back on and tried turning the wheel back and forth and it was fine. For a short term solution I recommend trying that!

I have a 2010 Ford Fusion and my electric power assist warning light came on and said to service now. We changed the whole power steering and I didn’t drive it 10 miles and the light came back on and the steering was hard to turn. I’ve already put 2 transmissions in it. Now it’s gonna cost me a ton of money to get it reprogrammed and who knows where I can take it to. It’s more tha. 1 years old so a dealership won’t even look at it. I’m so frustrated. And I was told there was never a recall on my power steering yet everything I read there should havebeen.

Weare on our 3rd power assist steering fault on my 2012 ford fusion hybrid. Ford intentionally only recalled limited Vin numbers even though they know the design is faulty so they can get lots of repair dollars to their dealers. Very few outside shops equipped to male this repair. Some have said all that's really required is a software update. They sell you entire rack system which some have said is not required.. A search online shows this is a problem with multiple models of ford. Not just fusion but also trucks. Ford will never be on my buyer list ever again. Junk and a rip off. They just fired the quality executives but it's too late. NEVER FORD.

2012 ford fusion . I got a message on dash board “ power steering assist .Just got my car 2 weeks ago . A used car . I am wanting dealership I bought from to fix this !!! N if this is going to keep happening ? I don’t want the car !!!

If it’s a recall on that particular part and it wasn’t fixed where ever you got the car from supposed to check that and should’ve fixed it. I’m currently going through the same exact thing. I have a recall that’s over 10 years so I got a lawyer and he is sueing the place I got the car from not ford because he said they should’ve have check all that before they sold me the car. Get a lawyer

Daughter bought Ford Fusion. Power steering went out and Ford will not fix . We have had problems with Fords for years...door handles break, transmissions slip or go out, etc. I stopped buying Ford anything. Daughter between jobs and car is waiting for fix.Ford is a joke.

2nd time fault assist needs repair is dealer am I paying out of pocket
