Even with a dead battery it is possible to open the trunk of Your Ford Fusion. The first thing You need to do is get inside the vehicle, if Your doors are locked You will need to use the key that is inside the keyfob. There is a small latch that You pull and that will let You remove the metal key. Once You are inside You can use the internal trunk release latch by lowering the rear seats and reaching it from there. The other option is to jump/charge the Fusions battery. Since the battery is located in the trunk You will need to use the jump points located in the engine bay. They will be marked in Your owner's manual and You use them exactly as You would a normal battery terminal when You jump it.

Ford Pass sensed my battery was being drained, and disabled all electrical. I could not get into the trunk to get my jumper battery, I removed the emergency key from the key fob, to get in the car. The trunk release button didn’t work. The only thing I could open was the hood. That’s crazy. You keep your jumpers in the trunk.

To open the trunk in a ford fusion with a dead battery, press and hold the trunk release button on the remote or press the boot release button on the boot lid with the remote in keyless access operating range.

If your ford fusion key fob has a dead battery you can still press and hold the trunk release button on the driver's door.

I want to add, my situation was different than a dead battery. Ford Pass disabled the entire electrical system. Also, with 2 child car seats, no way to use that approach of going through the inside. With roadside assistance, it started instantly with the portable jumper box.The battery clearly wasn’t dead.

You jump start the fusion from the connectors under the hood that connect to the battery in the trunk since there is no power to open it with a dead battery.

Ford's “better idea” is to make it impossible to open the trunk of the Fiesta when the car's battery is dead. That's where most of us stow our jumper cables. Grrrrr!

If you have a Fusion Energi model it’s best to jump a battery to the plus terminal marked by a red plastic cover, it’s on the drivers side a few inches inside the fender and the other on about any metal ground. This lets you open the trunk and get to the battery. Too many EV batteries block access to the emergency trunk pull at the center of the trunk lid. If you can’t open a door use the key built into the fob.
