To remove the ignition lock cylinder in the Ford F-150, disconnect the battery to work on the vehicle. Move the fob to the "run" position and locate two small holes in the steering column below the ignition. Insert a small pick into one of the holes to release the assembly and remove from the side of the column with the key connected. Insert the new cylinder by lining up its assembly and twisting to lock into place. The steering column contains a transceiver that connects to the chip embedded in the fob. The transceiver is designed to recognize the key and message the truck's computer to enable starting the engine. A replacement lock cylinder will come with a new encoded fob. To use a previous key, it must be progRammed by the dealership or with the help of a scanner.
