In order to remove the ignition lock cylinder from the Ford F-150, You'll need a small handful of tools and a bit of precision and patience. You'll need to place a 1/8 inch munch through the bottom of the ignition cover, where the cylinder is located, while the ignition is in the RUN position. You need a thin, long rod to push a release pin, and the lock cylinder should slide out. Replacement is just as simple, if not simpler -- it will slide right into place. However, the difficulty is finding an affordable option. Since You'll need PATS keys that match the new ignition lock cylinder, it's recommended that You buy a bundle. These can be had through most automotive parts stores for just north of $100, but progRamming is extra. Keep that in mind when You're calculating just how much it will cost to complete the repair.

Turn the key in the new cylinder forward, to the run position. Then depress the detent ball, and slide the ignition cylinder into the steering column. Turn the key back, and then forward. Make sure the key doesn't come out of the ignition, and then try to start the car.
