Resetting the anti-theft system on Your Ford Explorer is very easy to do. It will only take around 5 to 8 minutes of Your time. First, go to the driver's side of Your vehicle, and insert the key into the lock. Turn the lock to the right, or to the unlock position. Hold this position and count for 25 to 40 seconds. Doing this will bypass the anti-theft system. Next, get inside Your vehicle. Put Your key in the ignition, and crank the engine. The security system should now be reset.

To reset the anti theft system, unlock the vehicle with the key. Turn the ignition on. It should reset it.

My son lost my only key to my 1998 Explorer and I had a locksmith come make a key and now it will turn over but won't start. I don't have a key FOB or anything and he told me that I needed to bypass the security system and I have no clue what to do. I've tried the key in the lock and count to 60 and all that and that doesn't work. I have a new battery also

I can confirm that inserting the key and turning all the way to the right and holding there for about 30 secs worked for me. Then just insert key and start it. I had this problem before but didn't think about the theft system. I actually bought another computer and it started up. Then it wouldn't start again (few months later). Tried this reseting method and it started right up. Thank you! 1997 Explorer Sport, manual trans, 4wd, 4.0L
