Turning off the 4x4 on Your Ford Explorer is accomplished by pressing one of the three buttons on Your dash by Your radio labeled 4x4 High, 4x4 Low, and 4x4 Auto. You need to be in neutral, and then push one of the buttons to go into, or out of, that mode. 4x4 Auto is interesting in that it only engages the 4x4 system when Your Explorer detects that You've got tire slippage or a speed difference is present between the front and the rear wheels. It's usually safe to leave this on, even when driving on dry pavement; something that's not true for going at high speeds with 4x4.

To turn off the 4x4 operation of your ford explorer, hold the button down for 5 seconds to deactivate it. To turn if off completely, press the button for several seconds and you will get the message: stability-control system disabled.

I don't have a button I have a switch goes from left to right Auto 4x4 then no when I put it in neutral and put it on auto it doesn't do anything sometimes it only doesn't win the truck gets hot it's a 90 8 Ford explorer so how do I get it out of the 4x4 cuz when I turn the corners it jumps really hard like I'm freaking going to lose it my engine and then when I back up it does the same thing and then it starts to glide to the side when it comes into 4x4 when I'm on the street but I can't get it back to normal she will drive
