The check engine light on Your Toyota RAV4 is there to warn You when the vehicle computer finds a fault or irregularity in one of the vehicle systems, usually the emissions system. Once You have found and corrected the problem the light will need to be reset so it is ready to warn You if something else goes wrong. If You have a shop do the work, they will also take care of the light but if You do Your own work, You will need to follow the steps below to turn it off. You can go the easy route and disconnect the battery for 15 minutes or so but this will also reset all Your radio stations and any other memory based settings. Another way to reset the light is to locate the EFiMAIN fuse and the ETCS fuse in the underhood fuse panel. Pull these two fuses and wait a few minutes before reinstalling them. This should have cleared the check engine light without affecting any other systems.

To turn off the check engine light on a toyota rav4: put your key in the rav4™s ignition. Turn it to position one. For clarification, position one is the position before starting the car. Push and hold the trip meter reset button on the dashboard. Turn your key to position two. Hold the odometer button for ten seconds. Your rav4™s light should flash, perhaps beep, and then go out. Once the light goes out, release the odometer button and start the car.
