Hill descent control in the Ford Escape is designed to be used when You are towing a trailer behind You. This can give You better control over Your SUV and trailer so that it does not slide out of control. If You do not like the system being on then You can disable it easily. All You need to do is go to the main menu on the dash using the buttons on Your steering wheel. In this menu go to driver assist, then scroll downt o hill assist. From there press enter to turn it on or off and that will enable or disable it.

On the 2010 Ford Escape the switch is on the left side of the gear selector lever, towards the base.

2011 Escape downhill decent on/off switch is on the gear shift handle where ur thumb would be resting, if you were to rest your hand on the shifter.

2009 Ford Escape. It was on the left side of my shifter on my vehicle. Little push button has the same hill descent symbol on it.

I have a 2022 Ford Escape PHEV. There is no button I can find for the hill descent control function and it is not in the menus on the display. It keeps coming on when we are on the slightest downhill incline. It is greatly decreasing our gas mileage and I am worried about what it might be doing to our brakes. The Ford dealership can’t get us in for 2 months! I’d like to deactivate it myself, but don’t know how. Any ideas would be appreciated!

To turn off the hill descent control feature in the ford escape, push the switch to the off position. The light indicator should then turn off.

I have 2022 Hybrid Escape. On your screen tap Settings and then tap Driver Assistance, scroll down to Grade Assist and toggle it to the Off position.
