If You want to disable the hill start assiSTSystem in Your Ford Escape You will need to go to the driver assist menu on the driver's information center. From there You will want to go to the menu and scroll down until You reach the hill start assist option and You can turn that off. The hill start assist feature is designed to hold the brakes when You are going up a hill so that Your vehicle does not roll back. This can lead to smoother acceleration when You are driving up a hill and had to stop on the way up. If Your system is not working then You will want to check the ECU for any codes.

There is no way to turn it off or on--my 2017 Escape Titanium. It came on on it's on when I added a trailer hitch with the car on ramps. There are no options associated with it. Just another of the electronic disasters on this car.

In the owner manual states if you rev up the motor it will automatically turn off. I tried to click ok several times on the message to clear out, I couldn't get it to clear off. I also turned the vehicle off for 20min, which should re-set this. As of now I'm not sure if the revving up worked, or shutting the vehicle off.
