If You want to turn off the traction control system in Your Ford Escape You will need to press the traction control button that is located on the dash at the center console. The button will either have a car that has s shaped lines behind it, or will say TCS on it depending on what year Your Escape is. The traction control system in Your SUV is used to cut power to the wheels when a sensor detects that the wheel has lost traction. This can be very useful in low traction situations like on dirt or icy roads. If You need to turn off Your system frequently due to problems then You may want to have it inspected for any failed components.

Soo, why does it decide to come back on after it's off? Do I really have to pull the fuse, ot seems stupid to have an off button that doesn't actually work

Go to the center console where you will see a button with a car and squigley tire tracks. Push it and Traction Control should turn off.
