If Your check AWD system light is on in the dash of Your 2015 Toyota Highlander that means that the ECU has detected a fault with the all wheel drive system. You will want to pull off the road as soon as it is safe so You can use an OBD II scan tool to read the code that was thrown. Most of the time the AWD system light will come on when there is a problem with a sensor, or a loose connection at the sensors. It is more rare to have it turn on when there is a complete failure, because then the vehicle would not be running. I recommend getting it inspected if the light comes on and You cannot fix it easily.

If the check awd system warning appears on your vehicle, have the code examined by an odb scanner to determine what to do next.

I had this happen when the battery was low and I had to jump-start the car. Luckily by the time I changed the car battery the warning and check engine light went away.
