The 2012 Chevy Equinox timing chain is covered under warranty for 10 years or 120,000 miles whichever comes first. There are a lot of exceptions under the warranty details that will either void the warranty or will not cover the repair under the current warranty. The first thing to do is take it to the dealership as they can assess the damage and what is needed. You will have to show proof for all of the service maintenance You have done to the vehicle and inspected such as oil change, transmission, etc... There have been known issues of the timing chain causing excessive oil consumption and when the oil levels are low it will cause the timing chain to make sounds, heat up and warp or stretch.
