There is, in fact, a Ford Escape recall due to the ABS module. This affected vehicles for the 2013 model year, and included about 527,00 vehicles. Because of a faulty seal in the anti-lock braking system, severe problems, up to engine fires, can occur. There is a missing or incorrectly installed anti-lock braking wiring, and is covered under the recall, so take this into a dealer. If Your don't have a flat out engine fire, You still might notice smoking, melting, or burning of the ABS connectors. And, in case it doesn't go without saying, a complete failure of the ABS system itself.
My 2009 Ford Escape ABS went out with my rotor warped and smoke to the point I thought my car was on fire. Before that, I had to pump the brakes and felt like i could not stop. Been without a car for 30 days as Ford has a hold on the ABS needed to fix the problem.brf

Ford is recalling some models of the 2013 ford escape because the abs module connector may have wires seals that are missing or out of place.
My daughters 2009 Escape has a bad ABC Control Module, of course I am reading story after story, but no recall. It has been sitting at the dealer for 5 months waiting on a part. I finally found one at a scrapyard in Detroit and they shipped it to Ohio. They installed it, the one I got was for a 4x4, her car is a 4x2, so it is still not functioning right. On top of that, we owe the service department just under $1,000 for a part. She is a 19 year old college student and I am a single mom. This is a nightmare. We would sell it, but she still owes $5,000 on it.
My 2011 Ford Escape had its ABS go down, locked up a caliper and we had smoke going up, we were on the interstate when it happened. Now...Ford has a "Stop sale" out on the ABS control module and we can't fix it, it's sitting at our mechanics and they've been trying to find a module but had ALL of their orders from every distributor they've tried cancel their order for the part. Our SUV has been rendered unrepairable because of this and unsafe to drive. What is Ford going to do about this??!! I suggest people start calling in and demanding answers.
