There has not been a recall for lug-nuts on the Ford Escape. There were lawsuits filed because vehicle owners stated that the lug-nuts swell and become immobile. Some owners of affected vehicles complained to dealers that the wrenches in the tool kits that came with their vehicles would not fit a lug nut cap that had expanded, making repairs impossible.A judge in Detroit dismissed the complaint, ruling that the plaintiffs had not presented sufficient facts for relief. There was no action taken by Ford to correct this problem.

I ran into the same issue today when getting my 2016 Escape serviced. The service advisor told me that the lug nuts had swollen & would have to be replaced in order to do a tire rotation or change a flat. The cost of that will exceed $100.00 This is not an isolated incident. I plan on trying to contact my local Ford district manager to express my concerns. Hopefully someone at Ford will assist in having this resolved without having to pay for the replacement out of my pocket

There has not been a recall for lug-nuts on the ford escape. In many cases, consumers have found fault with the lug-nuts used on the ford escape, especially in cases where the lug-nuts swell and become immobile. Ford has gone to court over these issues but the lawsuit was unsuccessful.

Took my 2017 Ford Escape yesterday to have a tire fixed and was told they were not able to get the lug nuts off because they were swollen. Hubby is at the Ford dealership today and it's a known problem. If the problem is known at the dealership then why no recall?

Just had the same thing happen today- tire needed to be replaced for Ford Escape 2014, and I was told that nuts are swollen and need to be replaced or i cant get them off if road side emergency. They told me that there is likely recall for lug nuts

This is an unacceptable problem that Ford has to answer to! I've been told I have to have all my lug nuts replaced on our 2018 Ford Escape. I asked if it was an issue the Ford Company would pay for and they said no. It will cost me out of pocket well over $100.00 to have replaced. After reading comments above, I will NOT have Ford put the lug nuts on. Why replace with lug nuts that will in turn do the same thing.

I recently took my 2014 Escape into the dealer and had the same issue. They wanted $169 to change them. I did a quick check online and found that it was a real issue. I elected not to have the dealer change them (with the same type of lug nuts) but went to an auto parts store, bought a new set with one locking nut, and my boyfriend helped me change them out and taught me how to torque them correctly with a torque wrench. Less than $50 for the set of lug nuts. (He had the torque wrench though.)

I am not impressed with Ford, had my 2016 Escape serviced today and was told my lug nuts had swollen and need to be replaced if I wanted to be able to get tires off. Have since found out this is a common problem with Ford Escapes, seems that there should have been a recall on this problem.

I had my brakes replaced & tires rotated. All of my lug nuts had to be replaced because they stripped when taking them off. These were the same lug nuts that a Ford dealer replaced on the tires when I had a flat tire repaired a few years ago; they stripped too. Do not replace your lug nuts at the Ford dealership because they only use Ford parts & Ford Escape lug nuts which you will always have a problem with. It’ll get expensive.

I tried to change my break pads on my 2017 ford escape today. One lug could not get off, same problem. Had to take it somewhere for them to get the lug nut off. I ended up buying a better set of lug nuts $125.

Same problem. Could not get the wheel off. I was going to order a new set from Ford ($8 ea) until I realized they were the same ones. Unbelievable that they are still selling these.
