There are not any active recalls at this point in time for the Ford Explorer that would lead to the vehicle having a water leak. Usually manufactures only issue a recall when there is a problem that is failing in high numbers across an entire production run. The main reason that water would leak into Your Explorer is because of a clogged AC condensation drain line. When this happens there is usually water that will show up in the passenger footwell area. There are also issues that can happen with gaskets on the windows and if those fail water may get into the vehicle from the doors or window seals.

There needs to be a recall.... Just look at the water leak complaints with explorers! Ive a 2011 and every time it rains it leaks. It leaks into the front passenger floor board, seat belts are wet, into the light well at the top center and down into the cup holders and dash (which got damaged and replaced). It also leaks out from under the glove box somewhere. When i turn the water just trickles out of the crevices.

2016 Ford Explorer limited is leaking water from roof light console and pooling water on front passenger floorboard creating a strong odor. Can’t believe ford is ignoring this.

No, but it needs to be. We own a 2017 Ford Explorer and when it rains water drips down from the Map lights onto the touch screen. My sunroof’s motor finally went out from the water accumulation and the dealership said it’ll be about 800 dollars to fix it. I shouldn’t have to pay 800 dollars on a vehicle that we paid over 33,000 for and was less than 2 years old when the motor went out.

I also have a 2015 Explorer w/sunroof and I also had a major water leak early 2021.....went straight to my Ford dealer and $800 later the drains were clogged. Done. End of January 2022 I recently had water dripping out of the upper and only controls and front interior lights. So I again cleaned the front drains and ran water thru them and all is good. But where is this excess water coming from.....especially with the sunroof closed.

2020 Ford Explorer here that spends 70 percent of its life in the garage. I can’t even drive it when it’s raining hard because it leaks in the back right headboard. Stinks horribly and now I have stains on my headliner. When I took it to the Ford Dealership to have my oil changed because we have the extended warranty, I was told Ford never deals with any type of water leak issues. But I was told a company that handles water leaks comes to the dealership once a week but to have them LOOK at my vehicle it would cost a $150 consult fee. This is asinine. We bought the car off the lot brand new in 2020, we shouldn’t be having these types of issues.

If Ford knows this has been a on going issue since 2011 to 2022. Way Don’t and do Ford keep making vehicles with this same issue. There should be a recall on this

I have a 2011 Ford Explorer. Just found about an inch of water on my passenger side weather proof mat. I pulled it out only to find another 2-3 inches of water underneath the mat. Its soaked all the way into the back row. Lightly raining and snow is melting today. I went thru one small puddle of water. No idea how that much water could be in there. Any ideas???

We have a 2017 Explorer and now have drips coming through interior lights onto computer screen as well as passenger side foot area. I have been on the line all morning with NHTSA filing complaint. We had computer console replaced earlier this year cost us about 1500.00 thinking it was just worn out. Now it is making sense from an insidious water leak . Will follow up as we can.

Often times the 3 weld joints will start leaking on ford explorers. Take it in for repairs as this has been recalled in the past.

I have a 2016 Ford Explorer Sports Edition and noticed a small leak coming from the from roof light console when I turned a corner after a small rain. 2 days later after a heavy rain the passenger side floor well had a large puddle of water. Called my Ford Dealer to ask about this and was informed that he had never heard about such a problem in these vehicles. 1st time for this issue in 3 years of ownership.

I have a 2013 Ford Explorer Sport and have had several leak issues in the past year. The first started with a sunroof that was stuck opened. I took it to a body shop as FORD was quoting me an astronomical price to fix it. Turns out that water had burnt out the motor. When trying to discover how water was entering, it was determined that the drains were clogged. In clearing the drains, all the water then soaked the passenger side floorboard. I paid for a new motor and that has so far corrected the front leak problem. The latest is with the back tailgate. When we took it into the dealership about a possible window flashing issue, they pointed out that there were cracks along the top frame of the tailgate. They even went as far as to accuse my wife of trying to weld or use caulking to seal it. When I looked at it, it isn't a weld that is the issue. It is their seam sealer that is cracked and leaking into our car. It appears that someone at some point noticed this or they received a memo and tried to use silicone to caulk it. Needless to say, I am going to work this up the chain as this is a HUGE issue with Fords...clearly!

2017 Explorer Platinum. Recently started to have major leaks in the front and rear passenger floorboard. Cleaned the sunroof drains, but eventually tracked it down to the molding around the door. It’ll bypass the door molding, then get to the body molding and travel down the inside channel to come out the joint below the scuff board. Haven’t taken it to dealer yet, but most likely just buy the moldings myself and do it to avoid the hassle.

I’m so sick of this problem. I have a 2020 Ford explore with 18,000 miles that I bought brand new. Water was leaking in the third row cargo area and now it’s also leaking in the front passenger and driver side filling up the rubber floor mats, but also soaking the carpet every time it rains. The dealership wanted $945 to clean the drain lines that they said are full of Pineneedles and also saying that the moonroof looks like it’s on crooked it needs to be fixed. Originally when water was coming in the cargo area, the dealership told me that the back side window was messed up and needed to be replaced. This is such a joke and so disheartening. I really love my car but i can’t keep dealing with this . Ford needs to step up to the plate and fix this issuse. I will file a complaint with Ford.

2011 Explorer leaking on the driver's side and streaming down on to the driver while driving. This is a safety hazard and could easily cause an accident especially while driving and you are constantly trying to dry the water off your clothes before they get too wet. It is also happening in the tire well about 3 to 4 inches of water. I cannot find where it is coming from.

I also have a 2016 Ford explorer which started leaking from the overhead light. I'm reading this is due to drainage clog on the sunroof. I had a lot of build up of water in the sunroof well which drained into my cup holders the central cup storage and the floorboards of the front driver and passenger seats.

I have a 2020 explorer. Been dealing with water leaking in car for one year. Water leaks back right side ,pours through speakers and seatbelts. Water puddles up in cup holders in the back. Ford has had my car in their shop and claims they will not fix it. They also accused me of changing the rivits in the back. Car was brand new when i purchased it , it has never been in an accident. This ordeal is a complete nightmare.

2016 Ford Explorer sport When parked front end uphill, water fills up passenger side at second row and third row. Flows in like buckets!!! When parked front end downhill, water drains appropriately (usually). I believe the problem to be clogged rear rain drains.

I have a 2012 explorer that when it rained, water would run down the 3rd row seat belts and into the spare tire well! Luckily I had had a cargo mat and most of the water collected there and didn’t ruin the seats that were laid down! The sun roof and drains were fixed along with a new motor for the sun roof! 3 months ago when the water didn’t stop leaking, I pulled the roof racks and found cracks from front to back, I put a clear sealer on them but it still leaked! Last week I finally totally sealed the entire sun roof and that seems to have stopped the leaking! I very much liked my explorer but when the price of used cars come down I will trade it in in and it definitely won’t be for another ford!
