The preferred motor oil for the 2010 Ford F-150 5.4 L V8 is Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 synthetic blend or full synthetic. An equivalent oil can be used as long as it has the same viscosity rating and meets Ford specification WSS-M2C930-A. You should check the oil level monthly. When checking the oil make sure the truck is parked on level ground and the oil has had at least 15 minutes to drain into the oil pan. Carefully pull the oil dipstick out and wipe the oil off. Reinsert it fully and pull it out again, hold the tip down and verify the oil level. If it falls below the MIN mark, add enough oil to bring the level to within range. Do not over fill it, doing so would require draining some out.
