Anti-theft is a great feature when it's keeping thieves out of your vehicle; not so great, though, when it's keeping you out. Luckily, the immobilizer reset procedure on most model years of the Ford Escape is relatively simple -- to do so, you'll just need to remove the cable from the positive terminal of the battery for a period of at least 15 minutes, while the key is turned to the ON position. There's a chance that this won't work for you; in that case, it's exceedingly likely that your key fob either has a dead battery or has otherwise become inoperable. If you have a spare key, it's recommended that you firSTSee if that works. If you don't have one (or it doesn't work), you may need to move on to replacing the fob battery, or most costly, replacing the fob itself.

You remove the positive cable from the battery, turn the key to the on position, replace the positive cable, and turn key off.
