The only way to reset the "check engine" light in a Ford F-150 may be to use an OBDII scanner. But try one of these simpler methods first before visiting a shop. Check for a loose gas cap. When tightened, the light will go off. Drive the car for at least 15-20 minutes above 25 mph. If You've been starting and stopping excessively, the catalytic converter may be stressed and driving at highway speeds should clear the CEL. Disconnect the positive battery cable for 15-20 minutes. Reconnect and turn the truck "on" and "off" and then start the engine. If these methods fail, keep in mind, the CEL warning is indicating there's an issue with the transmission, O2 sensors or spark plugs and get the F-150 diagnosed immediately.
Joe: Well first things first, I wouldnt take the truck back to that shop anymore, they sound like they dont know what there doing . If you use a code reader and obtain the error codes that are triggering the check engine light, look them up online and you should be able to get a good idea of whats causing it. If you dont havd a code reader you can go to an Autozone/Oriellys and they will let you use one in the parking lot free of charge. Ive completely rebuilt my 5.4 Triton as well as transmission so if you need guidance I will glady help ya out. Good luck

To reset the check engine light, you could drive around to see if it goes off on its own, or you could turn the ignition on and off three times in 20 second, or you could replace the battery.

Turn the key into the ignition and turn it to the on position, and then scan the system to determine what is wrong with the vehicle. Write down the codes, and look them up in the manual for the ford f-150.

F150s biggest problem I’ve come across is the cam phasers cause a rough under powered motor. It triggers the service light pretty easy.

Disconnect the positive battery cable and wait a good 20 minutes. Then start with every thing turned off expecially anything that uses vacume. Let idle for 20 minutes. Or just get the problem fixed. This will get your truck through inspection

You’ll need a DBT reader. You’ll want to know what caused the warning and correct the problem

I purchased a 2023 F150 and the check engine light keeps coming on. I keep taking it back to dealership but it comes on again and now I have to take it back again.
It can be done with a code scanner from harbor freight but unless you fix the problem that caused the light to illuminate in the first place it will only come on again unless it was a temporary problem like a loose connection to a sensor.
IF you mean clear the code 2 ways you could do that, by code reader that can read and erase or disconnect the battery for 10 sec or so. But the light is on for a reason its storing a code and giving the definition of the problem area to look for. If clearing without a fix more than likely it will come back but then again you could get lucky. Most of your local auto parts stores can read and erase free of charge and can give you advice to fix and replace that part or connect you to somebody that can.
If you have a check engine light on, and you already fix the problem, if you drive for a minimum of 50 miles preferably on the highway the whole system should re-run all of the test to make sure everything is running as it should be if this is the case, the light will shut off on its own
