There are several reports of the 2002 Toyota Camry's intake manifold making a rattling noise, but fortunately it doesn't seem to be a critical issue. It's been stated by a number of automotive mechanics that it's due to a manufacturer's defect in the baffle, which is loose inside of the intake manifold. This will not cause any long term problems, with the possible exception of annoyance and inconvenience. If You're really dead set on getting the sound to go away, the only fix is a total replacement of the intake manifold -- this will cost You nearly $1000, and on a two-decades old vehicle, it doesn't seem to be worth the price. Don't let dealers pressure You into an induction flush; they say it may help Your issue, but zero reports corroborate this; in fact, many say it only made their sound worse.

The toyota camry may have a problem with the intake manifold if there is a rattling sound. The problem isn't harmful to the engine, just noisy.
