There aren't many reported transmission issues with the 2005 Land Rover LR3, but notably I was able to find a few examples of the torque converter clutch failing and throwing diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0741, which indicates the same. More common issues seem to indicate a lack of preventative maintenance, and should no way reflect on the LR3 as a reliable vehicle. As with any vehicle, You'll need to change Your transmission fluid at regular intervals, and check out the fluid levels in between. Particularly, You may notice some slippage between gears, or even an overheating transmission, if Your fluid is low or broken down. In order to mitigate, You'll need to stay on top of Your change interval (every 25,000 to 40,000 miles), or else run a serious risk of severe damage to Your transmission.
