Some 2010 Nissan Maxima's experience a failure of the alternator's voltage regulator, requiring replacement of the entire alternator. The voltage regulator is responsible for monitoring and controlling the amount of voltage sent to the battery, but also restricts electrical power when it senses enough is present. If the VR is malfunctioning, the alternator may over or under charge the battery and driving will be impaired. Signs of a bad voltage regulator include flickering interior lights and on the dash; poor engine performance; a dead battery or an inoperable instrument panel. If You're noticing constant electrical drain, a no-start situation or the malfunction of any systems dependent on charging You may need to replace the alternator and VR. Cost To replace averages $350-$400 in parts and labor.

I have a 2010. My alternator stopped charging. After 2 alternators, replaced alt plug, and a battery. Discovered my cd player was culprit. Pulled audio fuse (15a) under hood. The alternator immediately started putting out 14.3v.
