If the 2012 Chevy captiva is having an issue with the alternator then there will be a few obvious signs. The first is that the battery is dead. While a dead battery does not always mean that the alternator is bad, a bad alternator is a common reason for a dead battery. If it has not fully died then You may notice that the instrument panel is dim, or not working right. It may even flicker and make noise. This is because the amount of power going to it is changing. Replacing the alternator will cost You between $300 to $500, including parts and labor. This is a bit pricy, but You really have no choice but to do it. If You wait and let a bad one sit then Your battery will likely be no good in a few weeks, which will cost You another $100 or so. If You want to replace it Yourself then You will need to unbolt the clamps on it and pull it out. Thankfully it is right up front and easy to get to.

I too am having electrical problems with my 2012 captiva. 3 days after buying it, had to have the Cadillac Converter replaced. Once it rolled over to 100,000 miles the computer board crashed and had to have that fixed. Currently it's running rough and it doesn't want to start all the time. It died on me at the store. It has 136,000miles on it. I'm told it's either the starter or alternator. I'd rather trade it for something else but can't right now.

I have a captiva 2012 which is putting its self out of gear while I drive. Got a new gear box but still the same. What could be the problem and how do i fix it?

Sounds like someone is changing parts because the tester-said it was bad there are very few guys that dive in with a voyage tester just change what tester says .first of all the battery cables need to be clean and tight that never changed and maybe die electrical grease for corrosion these new mechanics seem to like sitting in the car looking at a machine that takes them in at times the wrong direction part changer pretty much
