The 2016 Honda CR-V has had some issues with the Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPS). The EPS can stop working without warning, making it difficult to steer. There have been complaints of intermittent power steering issues, where the light will come on, but go out shortly after. A bad EPS controller or wheel can cause an EPS fault. Rack-and-Pinion mechanical issues could cause the EPS to malfunction and potentially fry the motor. You will still be able to steer the vehicle if the electric power steering goes out, but it will be much harder at slow speeds, but becomes easier faster You go. You could expect to pay between $500 to $600 to have the EPS control unit replaced, the parts costing around $400.

My 2016 CR-V just failed a VA inspection due to “insufficient clearance at the inner tie rod” with the fault being ON THE STEERING RACK. Dealership estimates $3k to replace. I will never buy another honda again.

My 2016 (well maintained, garage kept) Honda CRV's power steering completely failed in June of 2020. It just completely failed AGAIN in December of 2021. Same exact issue.
