Like all electronic systems, the 2017 GMC Acadia's electronic parking brake can malfunction in many exciting ways; You'll want to check the fuse here if it's not functioning at all: Especially if where You live isn't flat. A common issue that's specific to Your vehicle is the parking brake not releasing at all: You push the button to release it, and it flashes the message "Service Parking Brake" and does nothing. This seems to be caused by having too much weight in the car: Have everyone step out, and unload Your cargo if it's very heavy. This is obviously a hopeful fix if You absolutely need to get it moving then; otherwise, You'll want to call the mechanic. This tends to happen while it's still under 10K miles, and dealerships have attributed it to a "software anomaly" in the parking brake module of the onboard computer, which can be remedied by flashing an update.

One of the parking brake problems on the 2017 gmc acadia include a parking brake light flashing due to an error on the ebcm.

I had the same thing happen just this morning on my way to work - 109000 km so thought it was brake pads. Just now I decided to try ‘something’. So I depressed the brake to start the engine, the pressed the brake switch with foot on the brake as I normally would (not to the floor)… nothing changed. I then pressed the pedal to the floor and tried the switch again. Sure enough it tripped the sensor, realease the brake (could feel on the pedal) and the light went out.

Press the brake peddle hard to the floor and push the parking brake button. When the parking brake is on itll flash the word brake or park then let off the foot brake and repeat then both lights will go out.
