The 2019 Subaru Forester's power lift gate only has one well known common problem, but boy is it a doozy! The lift gate won't open... At all! You can long press the button on the key FOB, the power lift gate button on the lower left of the steering wheel, or even the physical button on the actual lift gate, and it juSTStays there, stuck. When this happens, You'll hear three beeps, regardless of which thing You try, indicating an error. Initially some of my friends with this model Scooby took it into the dealer to get it "reset", and said the reason for this happening is due to trying to close the automatic lift gate manually using too much force. I'll let You chew on how much merit that has, but let me tell You the super simple thing You can do. Hold in the button and keep holding it, when You hear the three beeps. Wait about 6+ seconds... It'll feel like a long time, all the while holding that button down. You'll eventually hear two unlocking beeps, the lights'll flash, and the hatch will raise about a quarter of the way and then close again. After this, You should be able to operate it normally again. Now, if that doesn't work, what the dealer does to 'reset' this is... Simply remove the negative cable from the battery and wait two minutes (or run the headlights to drain it faster). Yup... It's rebooting the computer, like it's a 90s operating system. Cheers!

Common 2019 subaru forester power liftgate problems are caused by a bad liftgate motor.

I've tried this trick a couple of times, but nothing. There's no beeps, I've checked the memory button. I though needing a new battery might have had something to do with it, but even after a new battery, it wouldn't work. This trunk has been quirky from the start. Off to the dealer I go!

Tried Oliver's suggestion about holding the liftgate button for several extra seconds, and it worked. Thanks Oliver!
