The Hyundai Sonata gear shift problems are hard shifts and won't shift. The transmission is one of the most important parts of the vehicle. You will come into problems at some point. You may experience shudders. Hard shifts could come up and that is not good. There might be jerking. The gears may become stuck. The transmission may slip. If the transmission fluid leaks, that needs to be solved quickly. Delayed shifts can cause acceleration issues. The transmission fluid needs to be replaced every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. Along with fluid changes, terrible sounds will come from the transmission. Old transmission fluid will be awful to the ear. A worn out torque converter will cause a headache.

For the hyundai sonata 2020 transmission problems include the transmission slipping when shifting, and shifting being difficult to do at all. This will make it so you need to replace or fix the transmission.

Not experienced to the point where it was a problem that simply cutting the car off and then re-starting it maybe up to 4 or 5 times did not remedy. Cutting the car off and restarting it seems to find evaluate and remedy a lot of the computer glitches Sonatas can experience. Remember if and when you ever allow another person to drive your car, they will not share with you all the horrific details of what they put your car through such as spilling drink in the cup holder next to the shifter then liquid gets into that underneath compartment where a couple plugs are for your transmission and such and can short it out a bit and cause lots of little shifting glitches until the liquid dries up. If you experience shifting glitches and have spilled near the shifter, pull the middle console up and get in there and clean all that area out with an absorbent towel and Windex, then make sure it dries all the way then put all that back together and restart. Run shifter through all it's gears a couple times to refamiliarize the computer with each function timing and placement.

Totally unrelated, but I have a 2015 Hyundai Sonata with 220k miles, same engine and transmission. I'm looking to hand this Sonata down and getting another one. Should I wait for the 2023 Sonata to roll out? I think Hyundai solved the issues with the Engines however the transmissions on the newer models seem to have some issues.

My 2020 Sonata Sport 1.6T has been sitting at the dealership for a month already with a blown tranny at 24K. Be at least another month they said before one comes on. So frustrating.
