The 2020 Hyundai Sonata lasts around 200,000 miles with some check engine light and brake wear issues. At $18,400 to $29,998, it’s a good value for a midsize sedan with an upscale cabin for the money.

likeFilled The Good
The stereo system is very easy to use, there’s a lot of cargo space in the trunk and it’s fuel efficient.
dislikeFilled The Bad
It’s not as sporty as some other sedans, the engine is weak and there are some cheap plastic buttons on the dash.

The sonata is what I refer to as my spaceship.
The sonata is an amazing vehicles. The drive is very smooth. The seats have a comfortable fitting feel to them and the material is easily cleaned. There is plenty of room and trunk space. The vehicle has a sports like look but the space of a sedan. The buttons to shift gears is a nice change from the normal gear shifter. The interior design and looks elegant and classy.

It has CarPlay! And so roomy!
I love my car! It is a full size sedan so very roomy in the front and back. It has a huge trunk space with a mesh divider so everything does not roll around. I especially love my heated seats in both the driver and passenger seats. My only con is my back hurts on long car rides.

The sonata 2020 makes you feel safe, cause it safety features actually work.
The Hyundai sonata 2020 is the best car you could buy, from the shape to everything is kind of perfect. There is a lot of space from front to the trunk. His features are up to date. You do not really need a key, cause a cell phone either android or iPhone can basically do everything, like unlock or start the car. There is no problem so far.
accountCircle Antonio O
It comes with all drive assist features.
Performance on the 2020 sonata is unmatched. Along with a luxury cabin to make the driver feel comfortable. I would recommend the car to anybody who is in the position to go into a dealership, it is not a purchase you will regret. As a family vehicle it is perfect.

So easy to drive and has all the bells and whistles of a much higher priced car.
This car is the best I have ever owned. It has all safety feature, drives smoothly and practically by itself. The body of this car is stunning. The interior is very comfortable. Heated and cooled seats in the front. I love the wireless charging station for my phone. The GPS display is large. The heads up display tells you the speed you are going and what the speed limit is. When using cruise the car automatically reduces or increases the speed based on the posted speed limit. The car corrects itself, so that you remain between the lines. It will not let you change lanes if there is a car on that side.

Is it a Hyundai or a tesla?
I love this car! It is so comfortable and roomy but not too big! The features like remote start, heated seats, heated steering wheel, smart trunk release, keyless entry, and Bose sound system are only a few to mention! The adaptive cruise control allows you to not have to worry about breaking and getting too close to cars- the car does all that for you! The quality of the car is amazing and is so fun to drive- and gets great gas mileage. Very sporty, very sharp, and very fun.

Features of the Hyundai sonata se.
The passenger seat by the driver is to low and it is not way to raise it up. The camera screen is excellent. Other features that the car has are very good too. However, I am missing the blind spot monitoring that used to be in my last sonata se. The cruise control system is very good as well as the front camera that stop the car if you are not aware of the proximity of another one in front of yours.

2020 Hyundai sonata sel - what a great carb.
Very smooth to drive and ride in. Great sound system with the technology package. The full sunroof makes it feel like you are in a convertible. The car has many safety features that make driving feel very safe. The smart driving feature that keeps you in lane is very helpful. The cruise control and automatic adjustment based on car length makes long drives simple.

Poor engineering in Sonata Hybrid
Not the hybrid - In 4 years the inverter has been damaged needing replacement two times on clean, paved roadways. The failure to shield the inverter - thus costing almost $1,000 each time it is damaged - is a major engineering snafu. Will never buy a Hyundai hybrid product again.

This car has gone threw a lot and it is still in good quality.
I am going to start off with the great qualities of the car it offers everything a luxury car covers and more for a lower price. It also has a clean simple finish to the car it drives smooth the only problem was the hot seats in the summertime other than that it is a reliable car you even have seat warmers in the back.

Amazing car that does wonders!
The 2020 sonata is a very luxurious car. The car has a lot of added features that typical cars do not have. Such as the cruise control stays a certain length behind the vehicle in front of you, as doing so it slows down so you do not have to touch the pedal. Such a great feature for road tripping! The only problem I have had with the car that it can be hard to maneuver around since the car is pretty lengthy.

What Do Critics Say About the Hyundai Sonata?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2020 Hyundai Sonata is a stand out compared to other midsize sedans with good visibility, and it earns high owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Hyundai Sonata at 4.4/5, enjoying all the interior storage space, but dislikes the relatively weak engine choices compared to other sedans.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Sonata a 4.3/5, praising the advanced technology features, but owners don’t like the lack of all-wheel drive for snowy areas.

What Common Problems Does the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Have?

Common problems found on the 2020 Hyundai Sonata include check engine lights, chipped paint, along with excessive brake wear. Overall, these problems are similar to other cars on the market, leading to average repair costs as the Sonata ages.

Check engine lights are the most widespread complaint from 2020 Sonata owners, showing up within the first 10,000 miles. Usually, the problem is caused by a sensor failure, which causes the light to turn on. You will need to use an OBD-II scan tool to read the code stored in the computer, and then you can diagnose the problem. Repairing a check engine light ranges from $0 to $650, depending on the source.

Chipping paint along the front bumper is another problem mentioned by some Sonata owners at around 5,000 miles. The paint on the front bumper edges is thin, and easily susceptible to stone chips. Some people do touch up paint for around $100, while others repaint the bumper, costing roughly $1,000.

Excessive brake wear has also been found on some 2020 Hyundai Sonata models within the first 20,000 miles. The front brake pads tend to wear down quickly. Replacing the brake pads costs around $200, while a new set of rotors is an additional $350.

There are three recalls on the 2020 Hyundai Sonata, which is similar to other sedans from the same year. The most serious recall covers the remote smart parking assist software, which can make the vehicle move in unintended ways. Hyundai will reprogram the controller for free on affected models. Other recalls cover tire size labels, and the trunk release, which Hyundai will also replace for free.

How Long Will the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Last?

A well-maintained 2020 Hyundai Sonata can last around 200,000 miles, which is shorter than some other sedans like the Toyota Camry. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other midsize sedans, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $418 per year.

As a used 2020 Sonata reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history report, owners should be prepared to replace the ignition lock cylinder for $250, engine oil cooler costing $370, along with the control arm bushings, which cost around $400.

How Is the Technology?

The standard entertainment technology is great and includes a relatively large 8-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Optional upgrades include a Bose audio system.

Standard safety technology is excellent and features:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Pedestrian detection
  • Rearview camera
  • Lane keep assist
  • Adaptive cruise control

  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Lane follow assist

Optional driver assistance features include:

  • Blind view monitor
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Head-up display
  • Front and rear parking sensors

What Colors Does the Hyundai Sonata Come In?

How Comfortable Is the Hyundai Sonata?

The 2020 Hyundai Sonata is designed with comfort in mind, boasting a spacious and well-appointed interior that has received praise from both critics and consumers. Passengers can enjoy ample headroom and legroom in both the front and back seats, making it suitable for long journeys. The seats themselves are supportive and cushioned, with higher trims offering additional luxuries such as leather surfaces, power adjustments, and even heated and ventilated options.

The Sonata’s ride quality further contributes to its comfort profile; it’s tuned for a smooth and quiet experience, effectively absorbing bumps and road irregularities. Additionally, the cabin is well-insulated from outside noise, providing a serene environment. Ergonomics are also a strong point, with controls within easy reach and a user-friendly infotainment system that reduces the distraction and stress that can come from more complicated interfaces. All these factors culminate in a driving and riding experience that ranks the Sonata highly in its class for comfort.

How Much Storage Space Does the Hyundai Sonata Have?

The 2020 Hyundai Sonata offers a generous amount of storage space for a midsize sedan, which is a vital aspect for families and travelers alike. In terms of cargo capacity, the trunk provides about 16 cubic feet of room. This space is quite accommodating, allowing for the comfortable storage of several full-size suitcases or about a dozen grocery bags, making it suitable for long road trips or weekly errands.

Additionally, the Sonata includes practical interior storage solutions. These consist of a glove compartment, door pockets, a center console bin, cupholders, and a small storage area beneath the center stack, which can be used for smartphones, wallets, or other small items. Moreover, for added flexibility, the rear seats can fold down in a 60/40 split, which is especially useful for fitting longer items like skis or DIY materials while still accommodating a passenger or two in the back seat.

The seventh generation of the Hyundai Sonata was introduced for the 2020 model year.

2015: Fully redesigned for the sixth generation with new cabin, engines, and technology.

2017: Offers the same features as earlier years.

2020: Fully redesigned for the seventh generation with new technology, engines, and updated styling.

2021: Stronger N-Line model introduced, and small changes to the standard features.

How Does the Hyundai Sonata Compare to the Competition?

The 2020 Hyundai Sonata is a good midsize sedan, offering plenty of advanced technology features paired with a comfortable interior for the money, helping it earn our recommendation.

The Hyundai Tucson is an SUV offered by Hyundai which is available in the same price range. Passenger and cargo room is better in the Hyundai Tucson, while the Hyundai Sonata offers a smoother driving experience. We recommend the Hyundai Sonata since it’s more up-to-date.

The Honda Accord is another midsize Sedan, which costs about $3,000 more. Long-term reliability ratings are better on the Honda Accord, while the Hyundai Sonata offers a more luxurious interior. We recommend the Honda Accord as a used car since it will last longer.

2020 Hyundai sonata: car of the future.
My car is absolutely amazing. The 2020 model is clean, modern, and luxurious. The technology in this car is unlike any car I have ever seen before. Everything is smart technology. I can even move my car forward and backwards with my key fob. I can also remote start my car from my phone and check the diagnostics. It is a super cool car.

Better than expected fuel economy and great standard safety features.
Have only put about 1,000 miles in it so far but seems to get better than expected fuel economy. Very comfortable vehicle. This is my first Hyundai coming from a few year old Volvo. Shopped around for the features I wanted in a car and the sonata checked all the boxes.

A sporty alternative to other dull sedans.
My sonata has been a great car! Very reliable when traveling from home to work and vice versa. It gets close to 475 mi to the tank and has the power to get up and go when getting on / off the highway. There's lots of storage space in the trunk and all the back seats fold down for additional storage of larger items if needed.

Love my 2020 sonata. I used to own a 2013.
It is very roomy and has all the bell and whistles I was looking for, except a sunroof. It has large display screen, backup camera, navigation, lane departure assist, automatic everything, push button/remote/app start, heated seats. I can set it up to where I will be alerted if my car leaves a certain perimeter... Such as with valet or with a restriction for a teenage driver. It has a lot of cool this I have yet to use. Amazing and worthy car ever purchased.
I owned this car for 7 months plus and have had no problems. It is reasonably priced. It will not leave a whole in your pocket. Extremely good gas saver. No problems, performance is good for the size of engine, it is too new to judge reliability but the warranty is excellent so I expect no concerns, the comfort and features are totally out of this vehicles price range which is why I purchased it. I feel like I am getting such a good deal for the price.

Great features, runs like a 6-cylinder.
I am usually against 4-cylinder vehicles, but since this is a brand new model it seems like they've really worked out the kinks. There are also multiple modes, so sports mode makes the car feel like a 6-cylinder. I enjoy the tech in the car as well; it is easy to listen to music, make calls, and send text messages hands free, and the GPS for car play looks and works great. Gas mileage is also amazing. My biggest critiques about this car are the seats, which are not leather like I usually go for, and the trunk seam which does not seem to be sealed correctly -- whenever it rains I get water in my trunk.

Hyundai sonata 2020–the almost perfect car (for a sedan).
Being used to driving large cars, I have had some issues with driving a sedan—e.G. Problems with hitting the bottom of the car when I drive into a pothole, driving too closely to a parking ledge, etc. Otherwise, the car drives very smoothly, and the features of the car are great (screen, driving modes, etc).

There is wireless charging, big sunroof, turbo speed, big dash screen.
Haven’t had any problems at all. It is a new car and I have had it for 8 months at a good deal. Miles per gallon is good it has all these extra fancy technology details. The material of the inside and the outside paint is very. The only problem I think is it should come with tinted windows.

I love the 2020 sonata se.
I love the auto hold on the car, so when the car in front stops mine does as well. I also love the smart features, when my car starts to swerve or veer off into the next lane it lets me know. I also love the smart screen and that I can connect my phone to the car and talk to text and visually see my maps.

Hyundai sonata 2020 is a luxury vehicle.
It's a really good car because the interior is very nice. The outside is very new and is great for people who care about the looks of their car. It performs well and can reach highway speeds quite fast. The mpg is great for those who drive a lot. My mpg is always on the digital screen and is always over 30 mpg whether I am doing highway speeds or city. I would recommend this car to people who like nicer things as it is very nice for the price. Mine has an extended moonroof which goes to the back seat, heated seats, and Bose audio. The daytime running lights are very sleek because they have a nice fade when they are on. The daytime running lights are my favorite feature on the car because I think they look very good. My second favorite feature would be the digital dash that has an overview of your car and multiple options to choose to display while driving. It also has lane assist and highway driving capabilities.

Classy look. Very sleek and modern. Sensor for just everything. Distracting.
My 3rd sonata, each one gets better and better. This limited series is a bit overwhelming everything is computerized, very distracting. Beautiful car new design very sleek and classy, rides and handles very well. You will not be disappointed, overall great vehicle.

Excellent efficient engine with surprisingly good acceleration and a host of high tech safety features with unique and aerodynamic exterior

Good acceleration in SPORT mode with lots of safety features
After one month, I still love my Sonata Limited. Sport mode is fun to drive. The safety features are excellent. Following a car with the cruse control on, my Sonata will come to a complete stop behind the car and then start going again when the car in front starts to move. I don't have to do anything except pay attention. Saves a lot of wear and tear on me in stop and go driving. Very quiet even at highway speeds. Apple car play is great. I can start the car before I get to it so the car is cool by the time I arrive (I live in Florida). I spent a lot of time comparing the Accord, Altima, Camry and Mazda 6. The Sonata beats them all. Lastly, people look at the car and admire how it looks. The only thing missing is the digital key for iphones. Hope it comes soon. Great job Hyundai.

Interior
I have had my car for 3 months and still would buy it again over any of the competition. This is a very solidly built vehicle with a really nice interior and great technical safety features. The 10.25 inch GPS is great. I have driven it on several 180 mile round trips with some stop and go traffic and it still has ran from 36.5 to 37.1 mpg in normal mode. I would definitely recommend one of these cars.

Hyundai sonata sel 2020. The perfect reliable, affordable & sleek car for anyone!
Honestly, it has been my favorite car that I have purchased. I love all the safety features it has and how quiet it is while I am driving. I love the auto-hold option for when I am stuck in stop and go traffic in the metroplex. I also love how sleek and minimal the interior is. Having buttons for drive, park, reverse etc. Make the whole middle console area very appealing. The rearview camera is good quality as well. Comfortable seats with lumbar adjustments to personalize it to your liking. Overall highly recommend this car.
