Owners of the Jeep Liberty equipped with a 3.7 liter engine have complained of head gasket failure due to overheating. The overheating is caused by a loss of coolant that is related, among other things, to engine oil conditions. A common complaint of 3.7 owners includes finding a "brown sludge" in the Liberty's oil filler neck where healthy oil should be. The radiator often develops a crack in the drivers side upper tank. It is usually small and almost not discernible to the naked eye. Over time antifreeze will leak from the Jeep and into the motor, destroying engine bearings and causing the head gaskets to fail. If not intercepted early, the entire motor may need replaced. The average cost to repair a head gasket on the Liberty is $990-$1,200 in parts and labor.

I have had 2 Jeep Liberty’s, my brother one. One was 05, other 2 were 2010. All these Jeeps had a blown head gasket!! I guess that’s why they don’t make them anymore. You can bet I won’t!!

My 2008 Jeep liberty started acting up month agothe check engin would come on and would feel like the fuel injector wasn’t working but then would be fine the next day and the light would turn off . Would it be a sensor or spark plug issue but also it just lately started making a ticking noice while idling.

To the guy that said his started ticking make sure you have oil in it. They use synthetic and it evaporates. Go with regular oil.

Jeep went to garage for overheating.garage replace the thermostat añd water pump and installed the thermostat upside down. Car continued to over heat. When checking the thermostat it was discovered that it was upsidedown. Was put back in properly and now seems like head gasket is leaking from over heating. Question is, what should the garage be liable for? Should a new motor or used be installed? Has higher miles on it d ed
