The most common problems with the push button start system in a MINI Cooper are usually caused by a problem with the key fob. The most likely problem is that the battery in the fob is dead and will need to be replaced. When that battery dies Your fob is not able to communicate with the receiver in Your vehicle and that leads to it being unable to start. The push button start system can also have a failed ignition switch. The push button essentially just activates the ignition switch and if that has failed over time then it will need to be replaced to get the system working properly again.

The main issues with any key fob is that it will have the battery go dead, or the key can become disconnected from your vehicle.

I was told that the battery in the fob recharges when you’re driving and never needs changing, is this accurate?
