Nissan vehicles have been faulted for excessive body rust that have caused over 400 owners to register official complaints with the NHTSA. Both the passenger and driver floorboards and underbody rust through, requiring replacement and thousands of dollars in repair. Most complaints refer to 2002-2006 Nissan Altima vehicles, but the manufacturer has been singled out for faulty manufacturing for rust issues in general. Risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, accidents and fire is increased while operating with rusty floorboards. The event occurs often before 50,000 miles and in both warm and cold weather climates. Because no fatalities have been associated with Nissan corrosion, the company, unlike other auto manufacturers facing the same issue, has yet to issue a recall.

I have 2012 Xterra rusting on passenger rear quarter panel centered above tire. When I look at other Xterras they have rust in the same place. I'm going to have it fixed for close to $1000. Nissan should do somthing about this.. Since I have been looking I have not seen a Xterra that did not have the rust there.

Toyota has lost quite literally BILLIONS of dollars in lawsuits stemming from rust problems, especially on Tacoma’s and 4Runners. They have had many issues. To answer the question though.Quite a lot of posts exist covering this issue in off road we forums (where they actually will pay attention...). They don’t have a rust ‘problem’ but definitely do so I’d youre looking to buy have a real mechanic go through and check frame and any area parts are bolted together.

The 2015 nissan xterra will rust if left outside, or not maintained often, but it is not more then any other vehicle.
