Most frequently, the complaints made about the 2017 Chevy Equinox is for excessive oil consumption. Some owners report their Equinox consuming more than a quart of oil per 1,000 miles. By the time it's due for an oil change, the crankcase could be virtually empty. Low engine oil from excessive oil consumption is a leading factor for a blown engine.Changing your car's oil at regular intervals isn't just a good idea -- it's a vital part of keeping your car's engine running properly. The purpose of engine oil is to keep the internal parts of your car's engine lubricated and cool. It keeps the moving parts from grinding against each other causing wear and damage.

I have a 2017 Chevy Equinox. At about 80,000 it lost all oil while driving. Had to replace the head gasket and transmission gasket among other things. Since then, I have checked my oil weekly. I seem to run dry just short of 3,000 miles. Is there any law suit for the 2017? I think this is so wrong!

Also have this issue with our 2017 Equinox. Burning about 1 qt every 1,000 miles. Had camshaft replacement in April of this year that can be linked to low oil. Every three fill ups we are checking our oil and adding accordingly. Chevy Dealership will do this oil top off for free if you bring it in to them.

Dear General Motors, I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with my 2017 Chevrolet Equinox with a 2.4-liter engine. Since purchasing the vehicle, I have experienced several issues that have required significant repairs. In March of 2023, I had to replace a faulty accelerator pedal, as the warning sign for reduced power came on. This was a concerning issue, and I was disappointed to have to replace a part so soon after purchasing the vehicle. In March of 2022, the reduced power indicator came on again, and I was informed that the exhaust camshaft and primary timing chain needed to be replaced. In addition to these repairs, the intake and exhaust camshaft actuators and solenoids also needed to be replaced. In January of 2022, I noticed that my rear main oil seal was leaking, and upon arriving at the dealership, I discovered that there was no oil left in the vehicle. The dealership removed the transmission and replaced the engine rear oil seal. Additionally, I experienced a failed fuel pump, which had to be replaced. In June of 2021, I brought the vehicle in again, and it was determined that the camshaft actuator solenoid needed to be replaced. And in January of 2021, the vehicle experienced a failed APP sensor, which also needed to be replaced. Most of these repairs were caused by faulty piston rings, which is unacceptable for a vehicle with only a few years on the road. The number and severity of these issues have left me feeling very frustrated and disappointed in my purchase. I am requesting that General Motors take responsibility for these issues and provide a satisfactory resolution. I hope that you will take my concerns seriously and work with me to address these issues as soon as possible.

There was a class action suit a couple years ago. I bought a 2017 Equinox, June 2017. Since then i've had almost everything replaced. Faulty accelerator, Hvac system, radio, power door locks/window wiring. I've spent the past2.5 years going back and forth with GM Canada, and dealership about the oil. Replaced hoses, sensors, ect, still burning litre of oil every 800-1100kms. Went to two other service shops, they found the problem immediately. It's a engine defect. They advised I replace my car cause the repair isn't worth it. Contacted GM again, was told to take it to one of their shops, pay for another inspection and then fix whatever they say is wrong and see if that helps. My oil changes barely last 3 weeks.

The 2017 chevy equinox's engine gone. Got the oil change and said 70% oil left 100,100 miles. Car stopped and was checked, no oil. Burned all off. It cost $5000 FOR A NEW ENGINE. No warning light about oil gone. Very unhappy with 2017 Chevy Equinox. Now I don't have a car and can't afford another at this time.

I have problems with my 2017 Equinox engine 90K mostly highway miles. Zero oil in engine @ 3K miles after last oil change. No warning light and menu showed 40% oil life remaining. GM dealer giving run around saying they’re not aware of any oil issues with 2017 Equinox or recalls. Trying to find direction to pursue as their quote to repair could run $5K to $15K Any links or referrals would be appreciated

I’ve already replaced my 2017 engine for burning to much oil. A year later with a brand new engine I’mhaving Issues yet AGAIN. Last gm product I ever buy. Issue a recall. It stalled on my today in the middle of a intersection. Checked my oil TWO WEEKS AFTER AN OIL CHANGE. And it was EMPTY.

I just changed the oil on my 2017 Equinox and was shocked it only had 2.5 quarts in the crankcase. The mileage is 54000 so I was not checking the oil!

The 2017 chevy equinox's engine has been cited for excessive oil consumption that can lead over the long term to engine failure and damage.
