There are several rather common problems with the transfer case in the Chevy Silverado. One of the most common is the input seal inside the transfer case fails an allows transmission fluid to leak into the transfer case. The only way to repair that is to remove the transfer case and replace the seal. Another common problem is that the fluid pump will vibrate back and forth inside the case and wear a hole in the back side of it in which the case would need to be replaced. Its not too uncommon for the tail shaft seal to leaking or the bushing behind it to fail. Those are easy to fix, just disconnect the drive shaft and pull it out. Sometimes the encoder motor will fail, usually because of an internal sensor.
