The most common problem with the electronic power steering system in a Honda CR-V are usually related to the fuse getting blown for the system. This can happen when there is a short somewhere in the system, or it draws too much power. When that happens the fuse will pop to protect the motor from getting damaged. Your vehicle uses an electronic motor to aid You when You turn Your wheel and that can also fail over time. The motor could either fail internally or externally. I recommend checking the wiring connections on the outside of it to make sure that they are tight and free from any signs of debris or damage that could cause them to lose connection to the motor.

I'm encountering similar electric steering problems with my 2018 CR-V. Frequency is increasing, including totally locking up. Feel very unsafe driving the vehicle. I've been to the Honda dealership three times. They haven't been able to diagnose any problem nor does the problem occur when they test drive it. Dealership recommended that I replace the battery as a possible solution. Didn't make sense given that the battery was only 12 months old but felt I had no choice as the problem needs resolution. Battery was replaced at my expense but it did not resolve the electric steering problem. Very frustrating. I welcome any suggestions.

The 2017-2018 honda civic and honda cr-v vehicles were recalled by honda in 2018 for faulty gear box modules that honda will replace for free. Contact your dealer to determine your eligibilty.

I have the same problem with my 2014 CRV. Power steering goes out randomly. Sometimes weeks between doing it. I have had it in 5 times now. On the fourth trip I drove it directly to the dealer while it was out so they could see it. If you turn the car off and back on the problem resolves. It was on the fourth trip they said the steering control module was bad and replaced it for $1100. 3 weeks later steering went out the same way. Now the dealer wants to charge me $3000 to replace the Steering rack. Seems like they are just replacing parts to see if it fixes it. Not sure I can trust this will finally do it. MIght have to have them do it and then dump the car. My wife cannot steer it when it goes out.

I have a similar problem with my 2019 CRV. The steering drifts slightly, then I can feel the steering wheel catch it. The dealer said the steering rack needs to be replaced for $3400.

Having the same exact issues as Ed W happen with my 2013 CRV EX. When it happens, I am still able to turn the car, but it is not comfortable, and is a little scary. Whenever I turn the car off, and back on, it clears it right up. Have not taken it into Honda because my mechanic has a friend at Honda that said he has heard of this issue, but they still have not figured out a fix. As of now, I am just waiting for it to happen again to see if somebody finds a fix.

I'm also facing EPS issues with my 2014 CR-V. I changed the battery and shortly after the steering worked for an entire week. But now it is not working again more often that it does work. Fuses are fine. I had a mechanic run his scanner on it but found nothing conclusive. Does anyone know if I change the steering control module does a dealer have to reprogram it?
