From the manufacturer, the 2001 Ford F-150 was fitted with a 100% plastic intake manifold; therefore, it's very likely that at some point over the truck's lifetime, You'll experience a coolant leak in the area. This leak is due to a factory defect, and Ford released an updated version of the engine, known as the "PI" version with a metal coolant passage on the front of the intake manifold. Unfortunately, if the leak is severe enough, there's not much You can do except to replace with the updated part. This is a VERY involved process, so if You're searching for how to complete it, chances are You'll be much better off paying a certified mechanic to complete the swap for You.

The following symptoms may create problems with the intake manifold gasket: illuminated check engine light erratic engine performance oil and coolant leaks poor gas mileage stalling. A problem with the gasket intake manifold can make life difficult on the engine. In this case it is often safer to have the car towed to a repair shop to prevent further damage.
