The reason You're seeing the battery light on steadily in Your 2001 Ford F-150 is because Your alternator is producing too low of a voltage, and isn't charging Your battery. Now, the most obvious reason for this is that the alternator's gone belly up and You're going to need to replace it. You'll want to test this first, by takeng a probe to the battery poles while the vehicle is running, to see what the voltage there is. If it's actually over 14 volts as it should be, then it might actually be the battery cables themselves becoming corroded, and not the alternator at all: The battery light indicates a problem with the charging system or its components in general, after all.

If the battery light is staying on in your 2001 ford f-150 there may be an issue with your battery or alternator. It could also be an issue with the wires connecting the computer to your components.

First step is see if the alternator is actually working by checking battery voltage with the engine running. If yes then disconnect 3 pin alternator connector. Turn key on and see if the light still comes on. If it doesn't then the alternator is the problem. If it does then it could be the battery or wiring.
