The AC Off warning light in a 2009 Chevy Colorado means that the engine is operating too hot and cannot run the air conditioner. Usually this is followed by an ENG HOT warning on the dash. The number one reason that this error message will come up is when there is a problem with the coolant temperature sensor. When this gets a bad reading it will turn off the AC to save the engine, but usually the engine temperature sensor will not get too high so it will not overheat. You should check Your coolant levels, as well as the sensor to make sure that they are all working. That is the only way to get the AC to work properly again in Your truck.

It showed AC OFF first thing on a cold morning, so I disconnected the negative side of the battery, waited about 1 minute, reconnected and problem solved! Much easier then replacing a thermostat!!

My a/c is not on. Why would it be in the dead if winter. My guess is the cold affecting a sensor. Maybe it is indeed as simple as removing the negative cable and replacing it. ???

When the 2009 Chevrolet Colorado displays the "AC Off", it means that the engine temperature is to high and you need to shut off the air conditioner in order to help let the engine cool down.
