The check engine light for the Jeep Liberty means that the on-board diagnostics or the OBD detected a problem with the engine, emission system or the transmission though it is less common for it to be the transmission. Some of the most common problems for the light to come on are worn or bad spark plugs, bad oxygen sensor or a loose gas cap. The more common problems are pretty easy and cheap fixes. Changing the spark plugs only cost about $5 to $10 for new ones and only takes about 10 minutes to change them. Replacing the oxygen sensor is only about $30 to $40 and only takes about 5 minutes or so. Fixing a loose gas cap will sometime mean that it wasn't tightened enough and You will just need to tighten it.
