The CXL in the Buick Lucerne is a designation used to identify the more premium version of the CX. With the CXL, they included some features which are missing in the CX. It is not abundantly clear what either the CX or the CXLReally mean as acronyms. They represent different trims, but there is not a lot of information on the origins of the naming convention. Many car manufacturers use numerical designations and some use alphabetical ones. Others use alpha-numerical ones. The trims for this line-up goes from standard, Limited and Super. They are designated as CX, CXL and CXS, respectively. If there was a very notable meaning to the CXL, it probably would have been put forward by Buick.

The buick lucerne is a sedan with a full-size, luxury front wheel drive and a powerful v6 engine. The lucerne cx is a conventional buick, maximized for cushioned comfort with the premium ride suspension. The lucerne cxl comes with a firmer suspension.
