For the 2018 Nissan Altima, DS stands for drive sport. This setting is for those who wish to change the drive setting in their car to a more sporty mode. What this means is that it will change the automatic mode to something that feels more like a manual ride. So if You live in the city and prefer automatic for convenience, but You really love the way manual rides feel, this is the perfect setting for You.

DS or "drive sport" mode changes the transmission operation to a "sporty," driving experience. In other words, this changes an automatic 2018 Altima, to the feeling of a manual, giving consumers the best of both worlds. Drive Sport has a more aggressive acceleration than the standard driving mode, and a gear changing feeling while accelerating. This is also achieved with the shift paddles located on either side of the steering wheel, if they are equipped. To use Drive Sport, drivers need to move the shift lever from D to DS. Drive sport can be deactivated by returning the shift lever to the D position.
