The 2018 Nissan Altima lasts around 250,000 miles only with minor software and suspension issues reported. At $15,700 to $17,175, it’s a great value for a midsize sedan with advanced safety features.

Fuel costs are much lower than other cars, the steering feels sporty and the standard safety technology is advanced.

The suspension is firm, the CVT transmission doesn’t shift smoothly and interior materials are cheap.

Best car I have driven! Perfect for first timers.
It is perfect for first time drivers, drives well in ice or snow, very fast so it is like a sports car. It is very good with control, steers very well, gas is not expensive, fits groceries and large bags. Great heating and air system. It is a beautiful vehicle and it is very nice it has different color options and it is a push to start which is cool and it has a touch screen.

2018 Nissan Altima is great!
It is been a really nice car and I have not had any problems in the last month of owning it. The gas mileage is efficient and it is a very reliable. Great for travel and affordable. Very comfortable seats and spacious trunk. Lots of legroom in the front and back seats along with Bluetooth hands free calling.

I have a backup camera that I love and the Bluetooth feature.
I like the low fuel consumption. I also like the color. I dislike not having a blind spot mirror and moonroof.

Beware of starting problems.
Only problem with this car is sometimes the push start does not work properly, I sometimes have to push on the brakes many times to get the car to start. Other than that I have no problems love the gas mileage, look of the car and way it drives. This will be my vehicle until my son is old enough to have it.

A very interesting thing about my car is it is cloth seats but they are heated.
I absolutely love my car. It is the perfect size for me. I am a student so it is perfect. I have enough room to comfortably fit friends. It has eco mode where I can get 35 miles per gallon and sport mode which I get less per gallon but it has more power which is helpful when it comes to going on the interstate. I love the interior and exterior. My car is a push to start so it is super convenient so I do not have to dig in my bag to find my key as long as it is on me I can unlock and start my car.

Love the look and the awesome comfort it provides.
Very comfortable and has a new feel to it. Love the speakers and gas is really good. New and modern nice look on the outside. Comfortable seats and roomy back. Very smooth to drive as well. Mine is white and I am in love with the exterior. The car is overall clean and never had any problems with it.

I would highly recommend this vehicle.
Great on gas, gets about 500 miles to the tank. Blind spot monitoring and warnings are an amazing feature. The heated seats and steering are great for cold weather, when it is cold and you use the remote start it automatically puts the heat on high and turns on the heated steering wheel. Dual climate control is amazing and there is an ac vent in the backseat as well. I would highly recommend this vehicle.
accountCircle Natalie D
It has lots of space for a great price.
Love the color. I love the way it drives. It is spacious. I love how you can drive it in sport to go faster on the freeway.

Problems with AEB and ICC
Problems started in March 2020 - hwy was clear and dry - no vehicles in front or behind me and the AEB quickly slowed the car to a stop - had just enough momentum to get the car onto the shoulder of the hwy. Kept tapping the gas pedal for 4 minutes with no response - finally got power back slowly and was able to make it home - there was no warning or lights displayed on the IP but the computer did store problem codes - for some reason the AEB radar falsely believed I was in danger of hitting something so activated the AEB. Dealer replaced the radar unit but I've had problems with the ICC that have been ongoing since the spring - cruise control won't set the speed and the resume function won't work - has had multiple repairs by the dealer and problems keep occurring so now waiting for Nissan to decide what the next step is - losing my patience and I'm fed up. On a positive note the seats are all day comfortable and gas mileage is excellent.

I hate this car. Would not recommend.
My car will not start at first attempt. It's a 2018 with a new battery and no mechanical issues. It is a push to start so no keyhole for ignition. The gear shift will not release from park to drive more times than not. It is slow to accelerate. Good on gas. The car is build very low to the ground so you have to watch speed bumps. Air conditioned seats.

2018 Altima SV- It’s a Dud
Pretty disappointed In this car considering it was recommended by several people. Picked up off the lot new and now have 14,000 on it. To be fair the car is a company provided vehicle and there very few upgrades although it’s an SV. Problems have been many, car smells hot every time you park it, cruise control did not work ( only partially now), emergency braking / collision avoidance system turns itself off continuously ( especially in traffic or when driving in left lane by a partition), weather stripping came out on a section of the inside of the windshield, for a while leaked oil and finally lits extremely gutless when going up a hill or mountain pass. Not particularly comfortable on long drive even with zero gravity seat. The technology that came with this car is dated and lacks any appeal even over the most basic cars. The only redeeming qualities of the car are the milage and roominess.
accountCircle Destiny H
I am not impressed with the 2018 Honda Acura.
For as much as we pay a month the car has no luxury features, the shocks are horrible, the radio is outdated, and some of the system does not work properly. If my husband and I could do it over again, we would not purchase this car again. The seats are comfortable, but the backseat is little. No push button trunk features, and if we lose our key we will pay in the hundreds to get a new key.

Issues with acceleration
Bought the car used one year ago and currently it has less than 22,000 miles on it. I Just started having issues when accelerating. Instead of the speed increasing, it decelerated and I’m forced to crawl to a safe spot with flashes on. Once I restart the car, everything is back to normal. I didn’t do any research prior to financing the vehicle, and discovered all of the issues after the fact. Luckily enough, I still have manufactures warranty and also purchased an extended warranty. Guess I’m luckier than some

Brake issues
I had an issue with squealing sound at less than 20,000 miles. The dealer told me there was nothing they could do. I brought it back a second time and they finally put some lubricant on the brakes. At 45,000 miles the squeaking returned. I had my front and rear brakes replaced within 3 months of each other and had to send it back a month later after the squealing returned again. How many days do I have to be without a vehicle that is not even 3 years old.

What Do Critics Say About the Nissan Altima?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2018 Nissan Altima is very outdated compared to other midsize sedans, with low owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Altima at 3.5/5, praising the supportive front seats, but doesn’t like the cheap interior materials.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Altima a 4.2/5, enjoying the sporty performance for a sedan, although owners don’t like the lack of all-wheel drive.

What Common Problems Does the 2018 Nissan Altima Have?

Common problems found on the 2018 Nissan Altima include the automatic braking system activating randomly, corrosion on the battery terminals, as well as squeaking noises from the suspension. Overall, these problems are minor compared to other cars, with average repair costs.

The automatic braking system activating randomly has been reported by owners of the 2018 Nissan Altima in the first 5,000 miles. There are software updates available for the safety technology which improves its reliability. Most dealers install software updates for free, while others may charge up to $50.

Corrosion on the battery terminals also shows up on some Nissan Altima models at around 30,000 miles. Usually corrosion is caused by a loose cap on a traditional wet-cell battery, or a crack near the terminal. Upgrading to a sealed battery prevents corrosion, and costs around $250.

Squeaking noises from the suspension are another complaint from Altima owners at around 5,000 miles. When the suspension is squeaking early in a car’s life, usually it’s a sign of a loose strut at the strut mount. Most dealerships will tighten it up under warranty, yet if it happens out of warranty, be prepared to spend around $50.

There are 2 minor recalls on the 2018 Nissan Altima, which is better than other midsize sedans. The first covers the backup camera which can be fixed by a software update Nissan will install for free. The second recall is for the hood latch, where Nissan will install a stronger spring to prevent it from opening unintentionally.

How Long Will the 2018 Nissan Altima Last?

A well-maintained 2018 Nissan Altima can last around 250,000 miles, which is only about 50,000 miles less than the top-rated Toyota Camry. Regular annual maintenance costs are cheaper than average, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $390 per year.

As a 2018 Nissan Altima reaches 100,000 miles, owners should be prepared to replace the camshaft position sensor for $200, automatic transmission shift cable for $175, as well as the windshield wiper motor, which costs $250.

accountCircle Sue A

There are no problems. It always starts right away. Everything works. It hugs the road and the ride is amazing. It can also accelerate quickly.

accountCircle Lori F

I have not experienced any problems with the Nissan Altima, it is very reliable. The dealership has free inspection and oil change and check ups.

accountCircle M S

It is very reliable. The only problems I have had is a flat tire due to a nail, though that was not a manufacturing issue. Additionally, the tire pressure does seem low often, but it is not much of an issue once fixed.

accountCircle Ken B

Yes, it is reliable, but its body seems to be more susceptible with each passing year to dent more easily.

accountCircle Tanisha R

The 2018 Nissan Altima 2.5 sv is a reliable car. No the Altima does not have any problems at all, it runs really well, does not burn out gas and it is very smooth on the streets.

The 2018 Nissan Altima 2.5 s is a very reliable car and the tires are new and it does not have any problems that I am aware of.

2015: 3.5 SV and SL models have a standard touchscreen, remote ignition

2016: Minor exterior styling changes, new safety technology, and new sporty SR model added.

2017: No major changes.

How Does the Nissan Altima Compare to the Competition?

The Nissan Altima is a good midsize sedan in 2018, offering excellent standard safety technology with dependable engine choices.

The Toyota Camry is another midsize sedan, which costs around $4,000 more. Interior materials are more luxurious in the Toyota Camry, while the Nissan Altima offers a sportier driving experience with responsive steering. We recommend the Toyota Camry since they last longer, although both are good cars for the 2018 model year.

The Nissan Sentra is a smaller car offered by Nissan which costs $2,500 less. Where the Nissan Sentra stands out is with a more fun driving experience, while the Nissan Altima has better technology and passenger room. We recommend the Nissan Altima since it’s more reliable with higher owner satisfaction scores.

Automatic starter is great feature in this model.
The altima is very reliable, oil change every 6 months due to the type of oil. Car has automatic starter which is great in the cold weather months. Seats are electric and move with ease. You can sit back or forward with great comfort. The trunk is very roomy and fits a lot of storage. The comfort level is great for both tall or short. The back fits 3 people comfortable and 4 tightly. It is spacious for long room. The audio is descent. This model does not have carplay.

Wonderful sedan, great in every aspect with a few hidden cons!
I love this car but there has been a few problems with it that makes it a little annoying to have. One of the main things that is annoying is that the tires for this car are not made to the same quantity as other types of car tires so they are going to be way more expensive than other car tires. There has also been an issue that has been repeating. The alignment for car also is messed pretty often and that wears out the car tires as well. The other issue that I have had is with the ignition. It does not always work or sometimes it does. It is very bipolar with its operation. The performance of the car is great, it gets really good gas mileage for a sedan and is spectacular. The reliability is good except for the problems I mentioned before. The car is very comfortable and has lots of space for passengers and for stuff in the trunk of the car. The features for this car that I love is the heated steering wheel and front seats. That makes the winter more bearable.

Great and reliable car for a small family!
Car runs great and we have had no known issues with it. The car is spacious enough for the three of us. Myself being 5'9 and my child not far behind. The only issue I can see is having with the vehicle is the radio does not go very loud. The vehicle was a rental before purchase so any maintenance issues we’ve had were due to wear and tear on the vehicle.

As far as features in the vehicle goes, it has all the basics (a/c, Bluetooth, radio, aux, and a CD player). When it comes to comfort and reliability, it is one of the less comfortable cars I have driven in, the seats just are not the most comfortable. However, it is incredibly reliable. I have taken 4 trips to Cali and 4 rides to New Mexico and back in it and it still rides like it is brand new, over 100k miles on the thing. It is only been three years since we got it, however, it has not changed one bit, even with a little bit of internal damage from a rear ending, it still runs the exact same.

Confusing ac and interesting speakers.
Overall, there does not seem to be any problems. There are a few things that prove to be a bother. One of them being the ac and it is difficult to send cold air to anyone sitting in the back plus it can be a tad complicated in working (according to my mother). Another thing that is bothersome is when I am attempting to listen to music, the vehicle has to no longer be in motion to be able to set it up.

The Nissan Altima is great with gas and is practical as a commuter vehicle.
It tends to jerk while accelerating. More so when trying to merge onto the freeway to catch up with traffic. I am not sure if it's due to the transmission but when it does jerk it takes time to gain speed. Also the shocks aren't that great. It doesn't absorb impact especially potholes in the freeway and speed bump.

Flashy Nissan. Appealing color. Nice drive.
Great mid size sedan, nice color, low clearance, push button start, keyless entry. Awesome gas mileage. Bluetooth, iPod read, USB compatible, huge trunk. No navigation, no touch screen, no sunroof, no tinted windows. No sporty wheels. No third row. No rear spoiler.

2018 Nissan Altima and the front wheel drive only option.
I love my Nissan Altima. I however am not a fan of the front wheel drive. My car is great and runs even better but in the cold winter months when there is snow and ice, it slides everywhere. Before this car I had a Nissan sentra and that car was the same. Absolutely terrible vehicles to have in the winter unless you have an SUV which all have 4-wheel drive.

Nissan Altima, best quality, reliable, and best performance.
Love the spacious of the car, my leather seats just make it look more luxurious. The touch screen and alert signals and many other features make this car a real smart car and reliable. Haven't had a problem with it for the time I have had it and I am looking forward for it staying that way. I highly recommend buying this beautiful & smart car.

Great mileage, easy navigation tools, Bluetooth connection, and spacious.
The gas mileage is incredibly good, I travel to places and hour or two away every other day and only get gas about every week and a half. Everything works perfectly and I am overall happy. The speakers are amazing and it is so easy to connect my phone to the car.

Detectors on the side of the vehicle.
The Altima 2018 is a very good car. The features in it are amazing. The comfort in the car is so cozy. The performance of the car, it run fairly smoothly. It has Bluetooth and detectors on each side of the vehicle so you can see if there’s a car passing by which is super cool.

Awesome vehicle/comfortable/reliable.
I have not any problems with this vehicle. It is a great vehicle and very reliable. The seats are very comfortable and the vehicle is very roomy. The performance of this vehicle is awesome - have made many trips out of the city. It is good on gas and I love this vehicle.

2018 Nissan Altima - excellent car for every day.
This is my second Altima and I am very happy with it! I changed from a coupe to a 4 door, which helps when I want to give people a ride. I am very happy with the fuel economy, comfort, style, and handling of the car. I finally have Bluetooth to connect with my phone to make things easier when I want to listen to music or podcasts. There is also the rear camera, but I do not love that as much.

Great, reliable, and comfortable car.
My vehicle is very comfortable and reliable. It gets excellent gas mileage. The Altima drives very smoothly, sound system is great. The car heats up and cools off quickly. The trunk is huge! Backseat space is very ample. I would highly recommend this car. This is my 2nd Altima, the first lasted years!

2018 Nissan Altima sv 2.5l.
One small problem I had a while back was the fuel injector not working so my vehicle would not accelerate. Other than this, I have loved every second of the vehicle. Seats/seat warmers are very comfortable, very good gas mileage, the ability to have an aux cord and a charging cord at the same time is a great addition.

I love how smooth the car rides when on the road.
My car is very reliable, especially when it comes to gas because I get about 30 miles to the gallon and I have 16 gallons which gives me about 500 miles until I have to fill up again. I absolutely love the feel of the car. It rides very smooth. And it is really comfy.
accountCircle Mya B on March 29, 2021
This car is amazing has a lot of room. A fast touchscreen navigation display.
It has a seven inch, navigational TV display, it also gives you a back camera, and is touchscreen. The touchscreen is also very fast. The map it provides also is very good. Has a very comfortable power moonroof. The car is push to start so no need to carry a key around. The trunk is so big and it can extended if you take the back seats out. The seats have memory foam. And the car itself has a lot of space. The paddle shifters are on the steering wheel. The car also has a garage door opener.

Beware of starting problems.
Only problem with this car is sometimes the push start does not work properly, I sometimes have to push on the brakes many times to get the car to start. Other than that I have no problems love the gas mileage, look of the car and way it drives. This will be my vehicle until my son is old enough to have it.

My car- Mariah 2020 Nissan is the best.
Only problem I have is the front beeper for objects that are in the way. It beeps sometimes and other times it does not even turn on. I would think that this might have been from the previous owner. Overall the features are really great. I love the gas and the acceleration of the vehicle.

Today's car choice for daily modern life.
My car is not so technically upgraded. But, it is quite comfortable and undisturbed. It can fulfill my daily needs but not improve social dignity. Its feature is quite ok. Today renowned brand and modern technology catch the eyes of the customer. We looking for a modern technology hi-tech car for daily use.

I like the fact that everything is reachable from the steering wheel.
The voice control does not pull up contacts with voice. Many times it states a contact is not listed and it is. Second are the front main headlights positioning. The lights shine directly down in front about 10 feet. The repositioned is very difficult.

2018 Nissan Altima with rear camera, Bose system, heated seating, Bluetooth.
The vehicle is 4 cylinder and the rpms go too high sometimes. But it drives smooth and fast. It is reliable and very comfortable. It has a backup camera. The sound system is Bose. It has heated seats and steering wheel. It has enough room for my entire family.

Why you should definitely buy/lease the 2018 Nissan Altima!
I love my 2018 Nissan Altima! The seats are so very comfortable! The interior and exterior of the vehicle are both stunning! Almost everything works perfectly within my vehicle. It is extremely reliable and very good on gas. The 2018 Nissan Altima gets up to speed very quickly and when you are driving, it is very smooth. It has plenty of safety features. Only bad things about this car is that there’s no heated/cooled seats or heated steering wheel. The batteries in both my main key fob and spare one are almost dead even though they really shouldn't be because I have had this vehicle only a little over a year. I wish the interior touchscreen display, etc. Was more technologically advanced. I get a notification every time I am driving that my front radar sensor is unavailable even though I haven't caused any damage to the vehicle that would impair that function. But those are my only complaints which all in all, are not that bad. Overall I’d give this vehicle a 4/5. Some things could definitely be improved but it is comfort, reliability, and performance are all over the top. Definitely recommend!

Solid car for a daily driver.
Bluetooth connection is poor. Road noise very loud. Seats are great and the gas mileage is worth it. I enjoy the car a lot for the price. CVT transmission makes long drives a little bit smoother and it has a lot of trunk space which is nice. 7/10 good car.
accountCircle Michelle K on March 17, 2021

The Nissan Altima and Road Trips
My car does excellent on long drives one tank of gas on a long 9 hour road trip lasted roughly 630 miles. The car is very reliable and I've only needed basic maintenance done on the car. It averages about 32 miles to the gallon while driving through the DFW metroplex and it averages more on longer stretches of highway.
