Every Ford F-150 comes with an axle code that is on the back of the axle cover. There are different gear ratios that are available for Your truck which are designed to help in certian situations. Some gear ratios are better on road, some are good for off road, and some are better for towing. If Your axle code on Your F-150 is 27 that means that You have a 3.31 gear ratio and it is an open differential. This means that power will always go to the wheel that is easier to rotate. This is a good gear ratio for driving on city streets and light towing. This would not be an axle You would want to take too far off road because You really want a locking diff to help get out of situations where You could be stuck.

Axle code 27 for a ford f150 refers to a 3.31 Ratio; "19" to a 3.55 Ratio.

There is a sticker on the rear axle on the passenger side. I have a 2016 2.7l. The sticker says 8.8

8.8" vs 9.75" Axle Shaft - F150- Axle Code 27 November 26, 2021
My Ford F150 has Axle code 27. I need to replace the left rear axle shaft. It was damaged in an accident. There are two sizes available 8.8" axle shaft and 9.75" axle shaft. I do not know which one to purchase. From my research, is looks like the 9.75" is for the larger 3.5L version of the truck. I have the 2.7L Turbo version. I have a feeling that my smaller 2.7L is a 8.8" axle shaft. 2015 F150 XLT 4 Door Crew Cab 2.7L Turbo, V6 with Ecoboost Rear Wheel Drive Axle Code on door label: 27 Is there a way I can take a measurement and see? Like if I use a pair of calipers and measure the bearing or shaft diameter?
