To find the purge valve on Your 2001 Subaru Forester, You'll need to look to the engine bay, behind Your intake manifold. The purge valve is a small, rectangular piece of hardware with a few hoses running from it, and it should be one of the first handful of things You check when You're trying to diagnose an EVAP system leak. Alternatively, You may be looking for the purge canister itself, which is oddly not near the purge valve at all. To find the canister, You'll need to look to the rear of the Forester; You can find it by looking underneath the body behind the passenger's side wheel. You should be able to see it without lifting the vehicle, but You'll likely need to jack it up and place it on jack stands to work on it.
